April 1, 7pm - Lecture by Major Ian H. Murray - Sun City Ballroom
Major Murray is a West Point graduate and is the son of George and Kathy Murray of Sun City. He will discuss his efforts on "Nation Building" in the Panjshir Valley of Afghanistan. Major Murray was interviewed by CNN's Barbara Starr in January covering Afghanistan's Success Stories. His team was responsible for escorting Greg Morntenson, author of "Three Cups of Tea" in his efforts to build schools.
Free and open to the public.
April 16, 9am - 4pm - Symposium "Spanish Legacies in Texas" - Sun City Ballroom
Three highly credentialed faculty members of three different universities will discuss the history of the Spanish empire in Texas from 1519-1821. The program will be moderated by Dr. Stephen Benold, Georgetown resident and Faculty member of Senior University. Admission is free to senior University members and $20 to non-members. A catered lunch will be available at $15 per person with prepaid reservations. Reservations are required for all attendees. Space is limited.
May 6-7 - Symposium Field Trip "Spanish Legacies in Texas"
Trip includes guided tours of historic Goliad and colorful San Antonio. Plus it includes a visit to the Presidio La Bahia and the Mission Espiritu Santo de Zuniga along with lunch on the Courthouse Square, and a private dinner in the Dashiell House circa 1850 in La Villita. We will stay at the Drury Inn and Suites, Riverwalk (including breakfast). Then we tour Mission San Jose, San Fernando Cathedral and the Spanish Governor's Palace before lunch at the Nostalgic Guenther House. Members only! $350 per person double, single supplement $85. Price includes bus transportation, all tours, listed meals, and gratuities.
